President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who made a brief stopover in Tashkent. This was reported by the President's press service.
According to the information, the talks discussed issues of further developing bilateral relations between Uzbekistan and Malaysia, as well as expanding practical cooperation.
It was noted that as a result of high-level mutual visits, cooperation between the two countries has reached a new stage. Since the beginning of this year, the volume of mutual trade has increased by 15 percent, and the number of joint enterprises has reached 50.
During the meeting, special attention was paid to the significance of the negotiations being held with the delegation of Malaysia's "Petronas" corporation. The sides considered issues of accelerating strategic projects in the fields of petrochemicals, high technologies, agriculture, mechanical engineering, and pharmaceuticals.
Also discussed were prospects in Islamic finance, interregional cooperation, pilgrimage tourism, increasing the number of direct flights, and developing cultural exchanges.
During the conversation, opinions were also exchanged on current issues on the international and regional agenda.
At the end of the meeting, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev invited Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to pay an official visit to Uzbekistan.
