President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev was awarded one of the highest state awards of the country — the Order of the Golden Fleece — during his state visit to Georgia.
The award ceremony took place today, July 2, in Tbilisi. The award was presented to the President of Uzbekistan by the President of Georgia, Mikhail Kavelashvili.
It is noted that Shavkat Mirziyoyev was awarded this order for his great contribution to the development of multifaceted relations between Uzbekistan and Georgia.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed gratitude to Georgian President Mikhail Kavelashvili, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, and Parliamentary Chairman Shalva Papuashvili for the high award, and wished peace, prosperity, and progress to the Georgian people.
For information, the Order of the Golden Fleece was established in 1998 and is considered one of the most prestigious state awards of Georgia. It is awarded for special services in strengthening ties with foreign states and international organizations, as well as for promoting Georgian culture, science, and art.
The name of this order is associated with the legend of the Golden Fleece from ancient Greek mythology and the historical region of Colchis, located on the territory of modern Georgia.
Previously, this high award was also presented to statesmen such as Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain, King Abdullah II of Jordan, former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder, President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and the late President of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev.
Also, within the framework of the visit, Shavkat Mirziyoyev wrote his wishes in the Book of Honorary Guests at the Orbeliani Palace.
