A 24-year-old resident of the Andijan region has been sentenced to imprisonment for participating as a mercenary in the Russia-Ukraine war, according to court materials.
According to investigation data, this citizen went to Russia in January 2023 in search of work. A year later, due to financial difficulties, he signed a contract for military service. He was promised a one-time payment of 745,000 rubles and a monthly payment of 204,000 rubles.
After military training, he was sent to the Luhansk region, where he participated in combat operations on the Russian side. In one of the battles, his shoulder and leg were injured as a result of an explosion and a drone strike. After treatment, he returned to Uzbekistan. It was later discovered that a metal fragment had been removed from his leg.
During the trial, the defendant fully admitted his guilt and stated that he took this step due to financial problems.
The court found him guilty under Part 1 of Article 154 (mercenarism) of the Criminal Code and sentenced him to 3 years of imprisonment.
