President Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed his condolences to the family and loved ones of Rufat Riskiyev, the legendary representative of the Uzbek boxing school, world champion, and famous coach. The presidential press service reported this.
Rufat Riskiyev, known as the "Tashkent Tiger," passed away on August 15 at the age of 76. According to the presidential press service, the head of state's condolence message particularly highlighted the deceased's dedication of his life to boxing, his sporting achievements, and his contribution to the upbringing of the younger generation.
Rufat Riskiyev was born on October 2, 1949, in the Tashkent region. He won a silver medal at the 1976 Montreal Olympics and became a four-time champion on the scale of the former Union.
Riskiyev also served as the first internationally ranked professional boxing referee from Central Asia.
His services to the development of Uzbek sport and the upbringing of youth were duly recognized by the state, and he was awarded the "El-yurt hurmati" and "Do'stlik" orders.
