The second round matches of the “Super Chess Classic” tournament, held within the framework of the “Grand Chess Tour 2026” in Bucharest, the capital of Romania, have concluded.
Sindorov, playing with the white pieces, fought against his opponent during the match, but the game was decided in favor of Praggnanandhaa on the 42nd move.
After two rounds, the Uzbek chess player has 0.5 points and is at the bottom of the standings. In the next round — the third round — he will play with the black pieces against the tournament leader, French grandmaster Maxime Vachier-Lagrave.
“Super Chess Classic” is considered one of the prestigious tournaments bringing together the 10 strongest grandmasters in the world. It features chess masters such as Fabiano Caruana, Anish Giri, Vincent Keymer, Alireza Firouzja, Wesley So, Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa, Bogdan Daniel, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, and Jorden van Foreest.
The tournament will last until May 23. The total prize fund is 475,000 US dollars.
For information, the first stage of the “Grand Chess Tour 2026” was held in Warsaw, where American Hans Niemann emerged as the winner. Javokhir Sindorov finished in 7th place in that competition.
