A former official has been sentenced in a criminal case related to the illegal cutting of hundreds of trees in the city of Termez, Surkhandarya region.
According to investigation materials, the former head of the city construction department colluded in advance with the head of an LLC to plan the relocation of trees located in the "Dostlik" neighborhood and to clear the area.
It is noted that no permission was granted by environmental authorities to cut the trees. Despite this, 217 trees in the area were illegally cut down.
Among the cut trees were 61 Eldar pine, 36 Virginia juniper, 101 Oriental biota, 16 plane trees, and 4 mulberry trees.
According to experts' conclusions, this incident caused over 2 billion 69 million soums in environmental damage.
By court verdict, the former official was found guilty and sentenced to 2 years of correctional labor. Additionally, taking into account the time spent in custody, the final sentence was set at 1 year, 5 months, and 15 days.
