According to analyses, the high water consumption in the country is mainly due to the extensive development of agriculture and the large volume of water used in irrigation systems.
In the ranking, Turkmenistan took second place, with its annual water consumption amounting to 27.9 billion cubic meters. The following positions are held by Kazakhstan (22.77 billion cubic meters), Tajikistan (11.49 billion cubic meters), and Kyrgyzstan (nearly 8 billion cubic meters).
When calculated per capita, the highest figure was observed in Turkmenistan — an average of 15,445 liters of water per person per day. In Uzbekistan, this figure was 4,778 liters.
Experts emphasize that pressure on water resources in the region is increasing and note the need for efficient water use and the implementation of modern irrigation technologies.
