“The Young Farmer” project within the framework in Nukus, we are reminded of the dangers we face in food security, how climate change poses threats to agriculture, reduces productivity, and increases famine — the day dedicated to World Food Day, the “From Field to Table” environmental education festival is taking place. This was announced by the “Zamin” international public fund here.

The event saw the ceremonial raising of the Green Flag, the main symbol of the Eco-schools Uzbekistan project. Winners from Karakalpakstan were joined online by students from another 8 schools in Uzbekistan who have won the Green Flag.

Ziroat Mirziyoeva sincerely congratulated the students with awards. This award is a symbol of the youth's dedication to sustainable development and environmental conservation, and a proof of the young generation’s active participation in solving global problems. Greetings were also expressed by FAO Deputy Director General Viorel Gutu and FЕЕ Senior Director for Education Pramod Kumar Sharma.

The eco-festival dedicated to the upcoming COP-29 was eventful: Leaders of the “Young Eco-Champions” program introduced an initiative to establish Public Environmental Control by Youth in Karakalpakstan.

They mastered soil condition analysis, converting organic waste and leaves into vermicompost, participated in a skill class on sustainable greenhouse farming, planted a fruit garden, and proposed their methods to shorten the food journey “from field to table” while participating in debates.

They also attended skill classes by nutritionists on proper nutrition and demonstrated a lively flash mob that amazed all guests. As part of World Food Day, the presentation of a poster competition announced by FAO took place, with applications being accepted until November 8.

As part of the educational eco-festival, the “Lonely Boat” theatrical performance by Zamin Creative inclusive studio was shown, and the “From Farm to Box” photo exhibition by Austrian photographer Klaus Pichler was opened. This exhibition presents astonishing yet distressing images illustrating various stages of food spoilage. Dedicated to products that have been cultivated and produced in vain, this photo exhibition will continue until Friday.
