It was emphasized at the meeting chaired by the President that planting 840,000 trees along the 53-kilometer section of the “Tashkent-Ohangaron” international highway has been a unique experience. The President's press service reported this.
The Roads Committee, along with the regional administrations, was tasked to implement this experience on 13 international highways this year, planting 9 million saplings. Additionally, 2,000 kilometers of roadside lands will be allocated to 10,000 citizens and entrepreneurs for tree planting.
The task was set to organize the planting of more than 1 million saplings during the autumn season along the 145 kilometer portion of the Samarkand-Karshi railway and the 150 kilometer portion of the Tashkent-Samarkand railway.
The Ministry of Ecology was instructed to nurture 167,000 trees around landfill sites to create a “green belt”. It was emphasized the importance of planting 21 million poplar, mulberry, and grape trees at the edges of fields, and planting 5 million saplings at enterprise branches to establish a “green belt”.
The President specifically addressed the situation in Tashkent. Strict objections were raised regarding the operation of the capital's drainage system, noting that the recent heavy rain revealed the true situation.
Merely adjusting the drainage was not deemed sufficient; it was pointed out that creating a system to collect water in reservoirs and use it for watering trees was appropriate. In general, it was indicated that district governors in the capital must go to the sites themselves to directly address issues of drainage, greenery, and beautification.
Furthermore, it was noted that the prevalence of tree diseases in the capital had also increased. The City Hall was tasked to develop a master plan by the end of the year, including a program to construct the drainage system along with artificial ponds.
