Renowned writer Shodmon Otabek has passed away.

The person honored for service in culture in Uzbekistan was 79 years old.

An eminent cultural worker of Uzbekistan, a member of the Writers Union, translator and writer Shodmon Otabek passed away at the age of 79 in Tashkent city, reports the union's press service here.

Shodmon Otabek was born in 1946 in Shirmombuloq village of Andijan region. He graduated from the National University named after Mirzo Ulugbek in 1969. He worked at the Republic Radio, Uzbekistan National Film Company, Tashkent State Institute of Culture, and “Uzbekistan Literature and Art” newspaper. From 1992 to 2003, he was the editor-in-chief of the “Khabar” newspaper.

Over the years, the writer published books like “Mirzakalon Ismoilov” (1978), “Light in the Leaf” (1979), “Tests of Humanity” (1986), “The Happiest Day”, “Snowstorm”, (1988, 2009), “Chess is Eternal” (1990), “Shirmombuloq Evenings” (1995), as well as stories “See you on Good Days”, “A Handful of World”. Continuing his scholarly research on the renowned writer Mirzakalon Ismoilov, in 2010 he published a book called "Lessons of Mirzakalon Ismoilov".
