The incident occurred on December 17, 2024, in a private zoo in the Parkent district. A 44-year-old guard who attempted to return 3 escaped African lions to their cage was attacked and killed by them.

The situation was noticed by zoo staff 4 hours later, and 2 lions were sedated and returned to their enclosures. 1 lion was shot and killed by a local hunter.

The criminal case regarding this incident was heard in the Parkent district court. The court found the zoo director guilty of committing a crime under Article 257, Part 2 of the Criminal Code and sentenced him to three years of restricted freedom according to this clause.

The pre-trial detention measure was canceled, and he was immediately released from custody in the courtroom.
