The Chinese government did not approve the proposed sale deal to maintain TikTok's operations in the US, reports "Zamon.uz".

This decision was made against the backdrop of new tariffs imposed on Chinese goods by US President Donald Trump recently.

The US government has assessed TikTok as a national security threat and stated that the app could be completely banned unless it is acquired by American investors. TikTok's owner — the Chinese company ByteDance, however, is unable to proceed with the deal because algorithms and technologies are under the Chinese government's export control.

TikTok has more than 170 million users in the US.

The US government is concerned that user data could fall into the hands of the Chinese government.
