The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, received the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative on Violence Against Children, Najat Maala, on April 7 in the city of Tashkent, within the framework of the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union here.
The high-ranking guest conveyed the sincere greetings of United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres to the leader of our state.
Issues of developing multifaceted cooperation in the protection of children's rights, freedoms, and legal interests with the UN institutions, in particular, the Office of the Special Representative, were discussed.
The Special Representative highly appreciated the effective reforms of the Uzbek leader in protecting children from all forms of violence, repatriating women and children from conflict zones, and eliminating child labor.
The importance of developing cooperation in the development of international normative legal documents on children's rights, improving legislation and national institutions related to the protection of children's rights, was noted.
Furthermore, issues of holding a regional conference on preventing violence against children in the city of Tashkent and organizing a roundtable discussion at the UN headquarters to familiarize with the practical experience of Uzbekistan were considered.
