Six people died and an equal number were injured after falling from a moving train in the state of Maharashtra, India, according to the local police and reported by The Indian Express newspaper reported.
The incident occurred on the Pushpak Express train traveling from Mumbai to Lucknow, between the Diva and Kopar stations.
It is noted that not only was the train crowded with people, but individuals were also dangling from the doors of the carriages. According to a police representative, all the injured were transported to the hospital, where six people died. According to his statement, the deceased were citizens aged between 30-35 years.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Railways of India added that the overcrowding of trains is related to the high volume of passengers and the inadequacy of the country’s transport infrastructure. Following this incident, the Ministry has announced that trains operating in the areas around Mumbai will be equipped with automatic closing doors.
