The United States is stopping the delivery of previously promised anti-aircraft missiles and other weapons to Kyiv due to their reserves being excessively depleted. This was reported by The Guardian here.
According to US officials, some ammunition was promised earlier, during the time of the Biden administration, to strengthen Ukraine's defense. However, the new administration has reconsidered some of these decisions due to concerns related to US interests.
"This decision was made to prioritize the country's interests after re-evaluating the military aid and support to other countries," – states White House press secretary Ann Kelly.
According to the AP agency, after the Pentagon's review, it became clear that some of the promised weapon stocks are very low, hence some expected deliveries will not be carried out.
The US Department of Defense has not provided detailed information about which weapons have been delayed. However, according to PBS, the weapons include 155 mm artillery shells, portable Stinger missiles, Patriot air defense batteries, and Hellfire missiles.
"The US halting the delivery of some weapons could be a significant blow to Ukraine, especially as Moscow has significantly intensified its air attacks recently: drone, missile, and bomb attacks are becoming more frequent and powerful."
According to Ukraine's Air Forces, in June, Russia launched a record number of 5,438 drones against Ukraine. This is over one quarter more than the 4,198 drones launched in March," writes The Guardian.
