A family accused of witchcraft was brutally murdered in Bihar state, India. In a horrific incident in Temta village, five family members prematurely lost their lives. Three people were arrested in connection with the bloody event. CBS News reported on this.
Details of the tragedy
On the night of July 5 this year, the village of Temta, home to hundreds of people, became the scene of a barbaric crime. Approximately 50 people violently killed 50-year-old Babu Lal Oraon, his 70-year-old mother Kanto Devi, his wife, and their two adult children, and then burned their bodies. Among the victims were three women.
“Witchcraft” accusation — an excuse?
Before the event occurred, it was reported that a child in the village died of illness and his brother was also ill. Some locals blamed the Oraon family for the condition of the children. Believing them to be involved in witchcraft, a mob broke into their home and initiated the attack with bladed weapons.
Witness to the tragedy — the only surviving child
The family's 16-year-old son was able to survive the attack. In his statement to the police, he recounted how on July 5, at 22:00, unknown individuals besieged the house and accused his mother of being a “witch,” then killed all the family members one by one.
