On July 24, Children's Ombudsman Surayyo Rakhmonova studied the case of an underage 15-year-old girl who was raped in Angren city, Tashkent region. This was reported by the Ombudsman's information service.
Rakhmonova first visited the Angren City Children's Hospital, where she examined the health condition of the victim, S.Y., who is undergoing treatment there. The Ombudsman familiarized herself with the girl's general health, existing illnesses, and the medical treatments being provided.
According to official reports, the victim was diagnosed with several serious illnesses—acute arthritis, bilateral bronchopneumonia, protein-energy deficiency, severe anemia, and sepsis. Based on medical documents, these illnesses were not a result of the rape but had existed chronically beforehand.
The Children's Ombudsman held an individual conversation with the victim. She listened to the girl's thoughts and emphasized the need for a psychological approach to the situation.
A criminal case regarding the incident was opened on May 9, 2025. According to officials, the investigation is currently ongoing. The Ombudsman stressed the importance of ensuring that the investigative process does not harm the mental state of the underage victim. Therefore, it was proposed to guarantee the participation of qualified psychologists and educators during investigative actions.
While studying the situation, Rakhmonova also met with representatives of the "Inson" Social Services Center of the National Social Protection Agency in Angren. According to the center's officials, S.Y. and her family have been receiving regular social and psychological support. A set of comprehensive measures has been developed for the victim's rehabilitation and family support.
For reference, reports of sexual violence against minors have been increasing among Uzbekistan's citizens in recent months. We remind you that recently, an Uzbek girl who suffered sexual abuse by her stepfather in Turkey was also repatriated to the country.
