The US and the European Union have reached a new trade agreement after prolonged negotiations. Donald Trump and Ursula von der Leyen agreed during a meeting at the Turnberry golf resort in Scotland that the US would impose a 15% tariff on European products.
This will replace the 30% import tariff threatened by Trump. Certain products, including aircraft parts, chemicals, and agricultural goods, will be exempt from tariffs.
Under the agreement, Europe is set to invest $750 billion in US energy and allocate $600 billion for American military equipment.
It is said that this will help strengthen Europe's energy independence. Trump called the deal "beneficial for all," while Ursula von der emphasized it as a "successful diplomatic achievement."
