The U.S. government has decided to destroy $10 million worth of women's contraceptives purchased during the Joe Biden administration by USAID (United States Agency for International Development). This was reported last night, on July 28, by AFP.

The discussion concerns birth control methods—intrauterine devices (IUDs), implants, and contraceptive pills. These supplies were initially intended as aid for impoverished countries, but after USAID programs were discontinued, the contraceptives remained in storage in Belgium.

It is now planned to send these contraceptives to an incineration facility in France. The disposal process itself also incurs additional costs—approximately $167,000 is expected to be spent solely on their destruction.

In recent days, several international non-governmental organizations have urged the U.S. government to transfer these contraceptives to impoverished countries.

However, Washington has rejected this proposal. Belgium’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, meanwhile, stated that it is holding discussions with the U.S. embassy and attempting to persuade them to reconsider their decision.
