U.S. President Donald Trump announced on his Truth Social social media page that he has scheduled a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on August 15.
"The long-awaited meeting between me, the President of the United States of America, and the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, will take place on Friday, August 15, 2025, in the great state of Alaska. Additional details will be announced later," wrote the White House leader on Truth Social.
The meeting was confirmed by Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov, who noted that preparations for the Russia-U.S. summit in Alaska will not be easy.
"Undoubtedly, in the coming days, Moscow and Washington will begin very active and intense work on the practical and political aspects of the high-level meeting in Alaska," he said.
According to him, the meeting location was chosen due to the geographical proximity of the two countries.
"Russia and the U.S. are close neighbors, sharing a border. It makes perfect sense for our delegations to simply fly across the Bering Strait and for such an important and long-awaited summit between the leaders of the two countries to take place precisely in Alaska," said Ushakov.
