The president signed a law introducing criminal liability for providing religious education to a person who has not reached the age of majority without special knowledge and without the permission of a religious organization.
Amendments are being introduced to Article 229-2 of the Criminal Code (violation of the procedure for teaching religious doctrines).
According to the law, liability will be imposed for privately teaching religious knowledge without special religious education or without the permission of the central governing body of a religious organization.
This crime is punishable by a fine of 50 to 100 times the base calculation amount, or compulsory community service for up to 360 hours, or corrective labor for up to 3 years, or restriction of liberty for up to 3 years, or imprisonment for up to 3 years.
Currently, violating the procedure for teaching religious doctrines to citizens, including minors, results in a fine of 5 to 10 times the base calculation amount or detention for up to 15 days.
