Israel's Minister of Diaspora Affairs, Amichai Chikli, emphasized that the city is "no longer safe for Jews" after 34-year-old Zohran Mamdani was elected as a council member in New York.

He called Mamdani's views "pro-Hamas" and called on Jews to consider Israel as a "new home."

Chikli's opinion was also supported by Israel's National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir.

Nearly 1.3 million Jews live in New York—this is considered the largest Jewish community outside of Israel.
