Today, on November 25, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Samarkand region to familiarize himself with the processes of socio-economic reforms and to outline future tasks with the participation of activists. This was reported by the head of the press service of the head of state.
The head of state began his visit to Samarkand by visiting the mausoleum of Imam al-Bukhari, in accordance with tradition. Verses from the Quran were recited, and prayers were offered.
On the initiative of the President, this complex was rebuilt in a manner worthy of the high status and immense contribution of our great ancestor, the muhaddith, in the Islamic world. A grand mausoleum, a mosque for 10 thousand people, an administrative building, a museum, and entrance and exit portals were constructed on a total area of 45 hectares. Minarets of 75 meters at the four corners of the shrine lend it a majestic appearance.
Considering that this place should not only be for pilgrimage but also a center of knowledge, education, and reflection, and that the great pursuits, knowledge, and perfection of Imam al-Bukhari should serve as a noble example for visitors, especially the youth, an innovative museum was organized within the complex. It showcases the life and scholarly legacy of Imam al-Bukhari, recognized in the Islamic world as the Sultan of muhaddiths, and his contribution to the development of Islamic culture.
Whereas the complex previously served 12 thousand visitors per day, the possibility has now been created to provide services to 65 thousand guests in accordance with international standards.
Furthermore, the International Scientific Research Center of Imam al-Bukhari and the School of Hadith Sciences are located in the area.
Around the shrine, 570 billion soums were spent to establish hotels and trade-service points. This includes the construction of one four-star, two three-star, and 22 family guesthouses. These facilities are fully equipped with utility networks, and the area has been improved. It is planned to carry out landscaping works and organize parking lots in the area by 2026.
The head of state emphasized that the Imam al-Bukhari shrine is a vivid example of our people's rich spiritual heritage and construction capabilities, and gave instructions to the responsible persons regarding the high-quality and timely completion of the final improvement works currently being carried out in the complex.
