At the 20th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage held in New Delhi, India, two unique cultural assets of Karakalpakstan — the art of the kobiz and the making of otov — were officially inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
This recognition once again confirms the deep roots of our local traditions, the strength of our cultural heritage, and the organic connection between generations. Gratitude was expressed to the masters, researchers, and guardians of our traditions who contributed to this process.
According to experts, the art of the kobiz and the traditions of making otov are not only an integral part of the cultural identity of Karakalpakstan but of the whole of Uzbekistan, and their international recognition serves to further promote our national heritage on a wider scale.
