U.S. officials announced that serious criminal charges have been brought against Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. They are accused of drug trafficking and other serious crimes.
According to U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi, the case will be heard in the Southern District Court of New York. She stated that Nicolás Maduro is charged with conspiracy to commit drug trafficking, cocaine importation, as well as illegally possessing machine guns and explosives and planning to use them against the United States.
Bondi emphasized that Maduro and his wife will soon be held accountable under American law.
Furthermore, the U.S. Attorney General expressed gratitude to President Donald Trump for his firm stance on the Maduro case. She also gave special thanks to the U.S. military personnel who participated in the operation carried out to apprehend Maduro and his wife.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, this operation was highly successful and is considered a significant step in the fight against international drug trafficking.
