Speaking to journalists on Air Force One on January 4, Trump said, "Colombia is also in a very difficult situation, it is run by a sick man who loves cocaine production and he cannot be involved in this for long." In his opinion, the United States should develop decent and successful states around it and secure oil sources.
At the same time, Trump did not rule out the possibility of a military operation against Colombia, but emphasized that it "doesn't sound good."
Colombian President Gustavo Petro rejected Trump's accusations on social media and called the attempt to link him to the drug trade "slander." According to Petro, the judiciary in Colombia is independent and oversees it.
These statements come after the large-scale military operation carried out by the United States in Venezuela and the capture of Nicolás Maduro and his companion.
