According to the draft resolution reviewed in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, the territory of Samarkand city will be expanded, and Samarkand district will be abolished. These changes also entail the redefinition of the borders of the Okdaryo, Pastdargom, and Toyloq districts, as well as Samarkand city.
It is noted that this resolution is aimed at turning Samarkand into a "million-person city," constructing modern residential and non-residential buildings, fully providing housing for the population, and developing infrastructure.
As a result of the border changes, the area of Samarkand city will expand from 11.8 thousand hectares to 28.9 thousand hectares. This will create opportunities for implementing new investment and construction projects, including tourist complexes, recreational facilities, green zones, service facilities, and logistics centers.
