Armed attack in Kyiv: shooting and hostage-taking incident

In the city of Kyiv, at least 5 people have died as a result of a shooting committed by an armed individual.

According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, several more people were injured during the incident.

According to police information, the event occurred in the capital's Holosiivskyi district. The suspect initially fired shots at citizens on the street, then entered a nearby supermarket and took people there hostage.

According to Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, the suspect also fired at police inside the supermarket. He was eliminated during an operation conducted by law enforcement officers.

The mayor of Kyiv reported that at least 15 people were injured. Ten of them, including one child, were hospitalized.

According to Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko, four of those killed were on the street, and another was killed inside the supermarket.

It is reported that the suspect is a 58-year-old man from Moscow and that he used an automatic weapon.

According to President Zelenskyy, the four people taken hostage were later released.
