The prosecutor's office of Peru has launched an investigation into citizens being deceived with promises of work and high-paying positions in Russia, who were subsequently recruited into the war in Ukraine.
According to data, the victims were promised a monthly salary of 2,000–3,000 dollars. So far, it is reported that approximately 600 Peruvians have been recruited to fight on the Russian side. Human rights defenders have stated that 13 Peruvians have been killed in the war in Ukraine.
The Russian embassy in Lima has confirmed that some citizens have signed contracts with the Russian armed forces. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru has reminded that citizens must obtain permission before entering foreign military service.
Currently, the investigation is being conducted under the articles of "human trafficking" and "aggravated human trafficking."
