As of July 1, 2024, the permanent population of Uzbekistan was 37 million 134 thousand people. The Statistics Agency reported this.
It is noted that almost 18 million 696 thousand of the population are males, 18 million 437 thousand are females. The urban population of the country is 18.9 million people, while the rural population is 18.2 million people.
According to the agency, the average age of the population is 28.5 years. For comparison, in 2014, the average age of the population was 27.3 years.
In Uzbekistan, citizens of working age constitute 56.4 percent of the total population. At the same time, those under the working age amount to 32 percent, and those above the working age to 11.6 percent.
The highest share of the permanent population was recorded in the Samarkand region - 4 million 249 thousand people. This accounts for 11.4 percent of the entire Uzbekistan population. Similarly, Fergana (4.1 million people), Kashkadarya (3.6 million people), Andijan (3.4 million people), and Namangan (3.1 million people) regions have relatively high populations.
The area with the smallest share of the permanent population is the Syrdarya region, where 922.1 thousand people live. Navoiy (1.1 million people), Jizzakh (1.5 million people), Khorezm (2 million people), and the Republic of Karakalpakstan (2 million people) have relatively low populations.
