In the 9th round of the Chess Olympiad, the grandmasters of India and Uzbekistan, who were occupying the first two positions, clashed against each other.
The most uncompromising match of the Olympiad ended in a draw in all four games. The matchup between Nodirbek Abdusattorov – Gukesh, Javokhir Sindarov – Praggnanandha, Shamsiddin Vokhidov – Arjun Erigaisi, and Jahongir Vokhidov – Santosh Gujrathi Vidit ended in a dead heat. The overall score came to a 2:2 draw.
It is worth mentioning that, up until this point, the Indian team had continued its winning streak across eight matches. The Indians, who were leading in the first position, defeated Morocco and Iceland 4:0, Hungary's second team and Serbia 3.5:0.5, Azerbaijan, Iran, and Hungary's first team 3:1, and China 2.5: 1.5.
The grandmasters of the Uzbekistan team, on the other hand, had beaten the chess players from Trinidad and Tobago, Egypt, Croatia, Moldova, Israel, Ukraine, and Serbia, only to lose to Vietnam with a score of 1:3.
Now, the Uzbekistan team has to hope for the defeats of the Indian team in the remaining rounds in order to emerge as the winners of the World Chess Olympiad.
