President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with the Prime Minister of Slovenia, Robert Golob, within the framework of an official visit to this country. This was reported by the Presidential Press Service.
The focus was on issues of expanding multifaceted cooperation and practical partnership between Uzbekistan and Slovenia, primarily in the areas of trade-economic and investment fields.
The results of today’s high-level negotiations were highly assessed.
The importance of activating joint work in the fields of trade, investment, and cooperation was emphasized. The business forum to be held as part of the visit was noted as an effective platform for establishing new contacts and promoting joint projects.
Measures to increase the volume of trade exchange to 500 million euros by increasing the supply of high-demand products were considered. The "GSP+" preferences system and the standardization agreement signed today were also seen as catalysts for trade growth.
A plan for developing industrial cooperation focusing on technological modernization will be prepared. In this regard, efforts by leading Slovenian companies to implement projects in Uzbekistan in the fields of electrical engineering, machinery, pharmaceuticals, "green" energy, and "smart" agriculture were supported.
It was proposed to locate such manufacturing under the management of "Inpark" in a special industrial park organized for European companies in our country.
It was agreed to establish a permanent working group of experts and prepare the necessary regulatory and legal framework with the goal of implementing systematic cooperation in the field of labor migration.
Also, the possibility of establishing direct flights between the two countries and exploring opportunities to use the infrastructure of the Port of Koper for accessing the European Union market with Uzbek products were agreed upon.
The issues of expanding cultural-humanitarian exchanges were a separate topic of the negotiations. Particular interest was shown in Slovenia’s experience in developing ecological tourism, including in mountainous and rural areas.
The importance of developing joint educational programs, including the organization of a Youth Innovation Forum in Tashkent city, was noted. Next year, days of mutual culture and a week of Uzbek cinema in Ljubljana will be held as well.
It was agreed to hold the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission in July of the current year in Ljubljana city to advance the determined directions of cooperation.
In addition, a comprehensive "road map" will be adopted by the governments of the two countries for the timely and quality implementation of the agreements reached and treaties signed.
At the end of the meeting, the head of our state invited Prime Minister Robert Golob of Slovenia to visit Uzbekistan at his convenience.
