Ukraine's delegation today, June 2, in Istanbul for the negotiations, revealed the text of the peace proposals it intends to present to Russia, as disclosed by the “Reuters” agency.
According to it, Kyiv demands a complete and unconditional ceasefire — in the air, on land, and at sea. To build trust, it is necessary to immediately return all Ukrainians children illegally taken to Russia, exchange prisoners of war on an “all for all” basis, as well as Russia must release all civilian hostages.
In the next stage, a ceasefire regime and the agenda of a face-to-face meeting between Zelensky and Putin need to be agreed upon. Ukraine says the participation of the US and European countries in the negotiations is important.
Ukraine is demanding reliable security guarantees from the international community. According to the document, there should be no restrictions on the number, location, or other aspects of the Ukrainian armed forces, and the presence of friendly foreign troops in the country should not be hindered.
Ukraine also stresses that the territories occupied by Russia since February 2014 should not be recognized by the international community. The existing front lines will serve as the basis for the start of negotiations, but territorial issues will only be discussed after a full ceasefire.
Certain sanctions against Russia may be lifted, but gradually and with a mechanism for reinstatement when necessary. According to Ukraine's proposal, Russia's frozen assets should be used for the country's reconstruction or remain frozen until reparations are paid.
