DPRK leader Kim Jong Un met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on July 12. The meeting took place in the city of Wonsan.
"We exchanged views on the situation surrounding the Ukraine crisis," Lavrov said during a press briefing following the meeting. "Our Korean friends confirmed their firm support for all the objectives of the special military operation, as well as the actions of the Russian leadership and armed forces."
Later, Sergey Lavrov and North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui discussed bilateral relations and the agenda for future political dialogue.
"The heads of foreign policy agencies thoroughly discussed pressing issues of bilateral relations, including the agenda for future political contacts. Special attention was paid to prospects for further development of cooperation in practical areas," reported the news.
According to the report, Russia confirmed its support for a peaceful resolution of the Korean Peninsula issues.
"Views were exchanged on the situation around the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia. Mutual commitments were confirmed to resolve existing problems through political and diplomatic means. The sides emphasized their determination to jointly counter non-regional hegemonic states," the report stated.
At the conclusion of the talks, Russia and the DPRK signed an inter-ministerial exchange plan for 2026-2027.
