Kyiv — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed the implementation of international arbitration decisions during a meeting with Naftogaz head Serhiy Koretskyi. In recent years, based on court rulings in Ukraine's favor, it is expected to recover a total of $6.9 billion from Russia.
Zelensky wrote on social media:
"Today, international arbitrations have issued several rulings in Ukraine's favor. Their total amount is $6.9 billion. These are fair decisions confirming the liability of Russia and Gazprom, demonstrating the power of international law. Practical steps are now being prepared to recover these funds. Tomorrow, necessary instructions will be given to Ukrainian ambassadors."
For reference, in June, international arbitration forced Russia's Gazprom to pay Naftogaz $1.37 billion — an unpaid debt for gas transit services through Ukrainian territory.
Additionally, in April, a French court ruled to enforce the recovery of another $5 billion from Russia.
Following Zelensky's statement, diplomatic efforts are expected to intensify. Ukraine is preparing to leverage economic pressure mechanisms within the framework of international law.
