22 million tons of oil and 5 billion cubic meters of gas have been discovered in the wells near Świnoujście.
CEP head Rolf Skåar called this a "historic turning point" for Poland's energy sector.
According to current estimates, the border region with Germany has a total of 33 million tons of oil and 27 billion cubic meters of gas reserves.
Initial plans suggest that extraction could begin between 2028 and 2030. Before that, the project must be approved while complying with environmental requirements.
This discovery will double Poland's 2023 oil reserves of 20 million tons. Additionally, dependence on imports will decrease, strengthening energy security.
For reference, in 2023, Poland consumed 30 million tons of oil and 20 billion cubic meters of gas.
