The birth rate is decreasing in Uzbekistan, while the mortality rate continues to rise.

In the first half of the current year, the number of newborns in the republic decreased by 14.4 thousand compared to the same period in 2024. This was reported by the Statistics Committee here.

As of July 1, 2025, the population of Uzbekistan reached 37 million 860 thousand people. This indicator is 2 percent higher than in July 2024. Over the six-month period, the natural population growth amounted to 321.4 thousand people.

The largest populations reside in Samarkand (4.3 million people) and Fergana (4.2 million people) regions. The smallest population is in the Syrdarya region—938.5 thousand people.

In Uzbekistan, 405.5 thousand newborns were born between January and June 2025. Of these, 209.6 thousand were boys (51.7 percent), and 195.9 thousand were girls (48.3 percent). In urban areas, 197.8 thousand were born, while in rural areas, 207.7 thousand newborns came into the world.

The current number of births decreased by 14.4 thousand compared to the same period in 2024 and by 29.1 thousand compared to the first half of 2023.

Over the six-month period, the number of deaths in the country amounted to 84.1 thousand people. Of these, 46.2 thousand were men (54.9 percent), and 37.9 thousand were women (45.1 percent). Among the deceased, 45.6 thousand lived in urban areas (54.2 percent), and 38.5 thousand lived in rural areas (45.8 percent).

Overall, the number of deaths increased by 2.7 thousand compared to July 2024 and by 4.4 thousand compared to the same period in 2023.
