Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a statement regarding the ongoing forest fires in the country. According to him, 27 aircraft, 105 helicopters, nearly 6,000 ground vehicles, and 25,000 forestry personnel have been mobilized for the "Green Homeland" conservation efforts. Additionally, 132,000 volunteers are participating in the fight against the fires.
"Since the beginning of the summer season, 3,062 fires have been completely extinguished in our country," Erdoğan said in a statement announced through his social media account. He also emphasized that efforts to extinguish the fires currently ongoing in several regions of Turkey are continuing without interruption.
"Under the leadership of our Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, all relevant agencies, coordinated by AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Authority), are acting with a high level of vigilance, dedication, and responsibility," said Erdoğan.
The President also addressed those who lost their lives during the fires: "I pray to Allah for mercy upon our heroes who sacrificed their lives in the fight against the fires. May their souls rest in peace," Erdoğan concluded.
In recent years, Turkey has faced increasing emergency situations related to summer wildfires amid climate changes. Experts have been warning that the forests in the southern part of the country are becoming increasingly vulnerable each year.
