Amid the complex situation in the Middle East, Germany's Foreign Ministry issued a sharp statement calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza sector, reports dw.com. According to Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock's remarks before her trip to Tel Aviv, if Hamas lays down its weapons, releases all hostages, including German citizens, and renounces its political influence in the sector, the armed clashes in Gaza could come to an end.
Baerbock emphasized: "Germany continues to support Israel's security and provide assistance. However, we demand that Hamas release the hostages, including German citizens, disarm, and cease political influence in the Palestinian territories. From now on, there must be no room for Hamas to threaten Israel."
The German Foreign Ministry's statement noted that, despite ongoing negotiations, Hamas is still not ready to surrender and end hostilities. At the same time, it was stressed that the situation in the Gaza sector is becoming increasingly acute, and this cannot leave Germany indifferent.
"Germany acknowledges its special responsibility toward Israel. However, the sharp deterioration of the situation in the Gaza sector cannot and will not leave Germany indifferent," stated the Foreign Ministry's website.
According to the Foreign Ministry, Germany fully understands its responsibility toward Israel. However, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the consequences of the war remain a serious concern for the entire international community.
In the current complex situation, Germany is calling on the international community to resolve the issue peacefully. The fate of civilians suffering from the war and hostages remains a key focus for the relevant authorities.
