EU officials have stated that additional funding is needed to continue the aid program for Ukraine. For this reason, Brussels is considering the issue of using Russia's frozen state assets.
There is currently no unanimous decision on how to use these funds: while some countries propose the full confiscation of the assets themselves, others prefer to allocate only the revenue generated from them to Ukraine.
According to The Guardian, the EU is preparing a 19th sanctions package against Russia. Politico reported that the European Commission is working on a special mechanism to transfer nearly 200 billion euros in assets to Ukraine.
As the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, emphasized, the Russian assets will not be returned until the war ends and the Kremlin compensates for the damages caused.
