The former adviser of the President of Kazakhstan Yerzhan Babakumarov has died as a result of a fight that took place in Astana, reported Orda.kz.
According to reports, the 56-year-old Babakumarov had a conflict with a 36-year-old man. The dispute turned into a fistfight, as a result of which he sustained injuries incompatible with life. The police have initiated a criminal case regarding the incident and have detained the suspect.
Babakumarov graduated from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in 1991. Over the years, he worked in the Almaty administration, the Presidential Administration, the Ministry of Culture, and the Office of the Prime Minister.
In 2019, when Kassym-Jomart Tokayev became president, Babakumarov worked as his adviser. Later, he held the position of deputy akim (mayor) of Almaty city and left his post in 2022.
