“Moscow Online” reports that a 26-year-old citizen of Uzbekistan, who beat a 49-year-old deaf-mute man to death in the city of Shchelkovo, Moscow Region, was sentenced by the court to 1 year of probation. A second migrant, who helped conceal the traces of the crime, was deported from Russia.
The tragedy occurred on July 20. The deceased had gestured to two migrants who were collecting metal not to act without reason. However, they took this as an insult, and one of the Uzbeks punched the man several times. The victim fell and died at the scene due to severe head injuries.
After the incident, the two men tried to drag the body away and conceal the traces, but they were quickly apprehended. Initially, the investigation qualified the charge as "intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm," but later the charge was mitigated to "causing death by negligence." This is why the court's sentence turned out to be quite lenient.
The relatives of the deceased have sharply criticized the verdict, emphasizing that the investigation did not fully study the details of the incident and was lenient towards the accused.
