The Ministry of Economy and Finance has proposed introducing a new excise tax on potato chips in the budget plan for 2026–2028.

According to the document, starting April 1, 2026, an excise tax of 15,000 soums per 1 kilogram of finished chips is planned.

The tax will be paid by local producers and chip importers. The Ministry stated that this initiative was developed based on the recommendations of the World Health Organization and the proposals of the Ministry of Health to support healthy eating.

Furthermore, the experience of other countries in this direction has also been studied.
