President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, within the framework of his official visit to Japan, received the Mayor of Nara City, Gen Nakagawa.

According to the press service of the President, issues of further developing interregional relations were discussed, with special emphasis on strengthening cultural and humanitarian cooperation. The establishment of fraternal relations between the cities of Samarkand and Nara, which have a long history of connections, was highly appreciated. It was emphasized that Samarkand was the center of the Great Silk Road for many centuries, and Nara, the ancient capital of Japan, was its eastern gateway. These cities played an important role in developing international trade and the exchange of knowledge, serving as cultural bridges between civilizations.

The importance of thorough preparation for the archaeological exhibition dedicated to the culture and history of Uzbekistan, which will be displayed at the Nara National Museum in 2027, was emphasized. It was noted that this project will be a major cultural event held in honor of the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Japan.

Gen Nakagawa announced the decision to name one of the new parks in Nara City "Samarkand" as a symbol of eternal friendship and cultural and historical closeness between the two countries and peoples.

During the conversation, the importance of actively developing trade, economic, and investment ties between the two fraternal cities, as well as implementing cooperation projects in areas such as agriculture, tourism, textiles, transport, logistics, and urban planning, was emphasized.
