On December 26, during Friday prayers, an explosion occurred at the Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib mosque located in the city of Homs, Syria. According to preliminary information, 6 people were killed and 21 were injured as a result of the incident. This was reported by the publication "Al Mayadeen".
It is reported that so far no group has officially claimed responsibility for the attack. However, it is said on social media that the "Ansar al-Sunnah" group is behind the explosion. After the incident, Syrian security forces cordoned off the scene, and the injured were taken to hospitals.
Activists note that this group has previously threatened several times with attacks on areas with a majority Alawite population, including the cities of Homs, Tartus, and Latakia. The Wadi al-Dhahab district where the explosion took place is one of the major neighborhoods in Homs, where a number of violent incidents have been observed recently.
