On December 29, US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will hold a meeting. The main topic of the conversation will be agreeing on the second stage of the peace agreement in Gaza. The negotiations will take place at Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.
The initial peace agreement has been in effect since October, but recently the process has slowed down as the parties have accused each other of violating the terms. The second stage involves a complex 20-point plan approved by the UN Security Council, which aims to end Hamas's rule in Gaza.
The negotiations may also raise issues not directly related to Gaza, including the Iran issue. Within the framework of the initiative, it is planned to restore Gaza under international supervision and disarm it, led by the "Peace Council" under Trump's leadership, while the Palestinians will carry out daily administration by forming a "technocratic and apolitical" committee.
Additionally, the initiative is aimed at normalizing relations between Israel and Arab states and finding ways to achieve Palestinian independence, but complex logistical and humanitarian issues such as rebuilding Gaza, disarming Hamas, and forming "international stabilization forces" still exist.
The meeting follows recent consultations by Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and son-in-law Jared Kushner with officials from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey. Netanyahu will be the first foreign leader to meet with Trump at the White House during Trump's second presidential term.
