The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Lyayen, said the duties imposed by US President Donald Trump were a serious blow to businesses and consumers around the world. He made this known on his "X" page.
"The universal tariffs announced by the United States are a big blow to businesses and consumers around the world. Europe to respond ready. We always defend our interests and values," Ursula von der Lyayen writes.
He has also stated that he agrees with Trump's position that some are receiving “unfair benefits” due to deficiencies in the global trade system, and is willing to take efforts to adapt it to current reality.
But, the tariffs stated that they would not help to “fix” the system. Ursula von der Lyayen had stated that she was finalizing Euroittifac response measures due to steel and aluminum duties imposed by the United States. Also, if negotiations fail, Europe will take additional countermeasures to protect its interests and businesses.
