The Fatwa Center under the Administration of Muslims of Uzbekistan responded to the question of whether it is permissible to get answers to religious questions from ChatGPT.

According to the response, it is not permissible from a Shariah point of view to seek answers to religious questions through artificial intelligence tools, including platforms like ChatGPT. The Fatwa Center highlighted this point specifically.

In particular, artificial intelligence systems like ChatGPT can be useful in providing information in certain technical and general areas. However, due to the delicacy and specialized nature of religious matters, relying on the responses of such platforms can lead to incorrect interpretations and errors.

It is noted that sometimes these systems might provide speculative answers to religious questions, and in some cases, might refer to non-existent fiqh sources or provide incorrect information from texts. Therefore, it is emphasized that such questions should only be resolved through knowledgeable experts in the field — namely, reliable scholars and religious specialists.

For this reason, the Fatwa Center strongly advises against turning to artificial intelligence for religious matters and recommends consulting qualified scholars and specialists instead.
