A suspension bridge collapsed in one of the tourist areas of China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. As a result, 5 people died. This was reported by the "Xinhua" publication.
According to reports, the incident occurred on August 6 in the city of Yili. One of the suspension ropes snapped, causing the bridge to tilt, and people fell into the water. As a result, 24 people were injured, and a total of 29 people fell from the bridge.
Of them, 22 sustained minor injuries, 2 are in serious condition, and 5 died. The injured were admitted to a local hospital. Necessary assistance is currently being provided to the injured.
Videos circulating on social media show the collapsed suspension bridge tilted to one side. At the moment of the collapse, people remaining on the bridge tried to hold onto the railings and move to the other side. The footage also shows rescuers assisting victims under the bridge.
For reference, the Zika virus, transmitted by mosquitoes, is spreading widely in China. Over 7,000 people in the country have already been infected. The government is spraying insecticides and deploying drones to combat the insects.
