It was revealed that a lawyer, who is a member of the bar association operating in the Jarkurghon district of the Surkhandarya region, demanded $60,000 USD from a defendant in a criminal case to secure a lighter punishment—specifically, a non-custodial sentence. This was reported by DXX Darakchi.uz.
The defendant in this case is currently being tried in the Jarkurghon District Court. The lawyer promised to "help" secure a lighter sentence for the defendant by leveraging his connections within the judicial system.
However, this "help" did not escape the attention of DXX and prosecutor's office officials. During a rapid operation, the lawyer was caught in the act of receiving $50,000 of the demanded sum.
He has been charged under Article 168-4(a) (fraud) and Article 28,211-3(a) (attempted bribery) of the Criminal Code. A custodial restraint measure has been applied against him.
Investigative actions are currently underway.
